GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Former University of North Dakota All-Americans Zach Parise and T.J. Oshie were named to the 2014 United States Olympic hockey team today by USA Hockey and will represent their country at the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

It is the second straight Olympic selection for Parise, who played for the U.S. team that earned a silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The Faribault, Minn., native tied for the team lead in points and goals that year and scored the game-tying goal in the final minute of third period to send the gold medal game into overtime, an eventual Canada victory. He has also previously represented the U.S. three times at the World Championships (2005, 2007, 2008) and twice at the World Junior Championships (2003, 2004).

Parise, who currently serves as an assistant captain for the Minnesota Wild, was a Hobey Baker Memorial Award finalist in each of his two seasons at North Dakota (2002-03 and 2003-04) and was a first-team All-American as a sophomore. In 37 games this season with the Wild, Parise has 15 goals and 12 assists.

Oshie, who will be competing in his first Olympic Games, spent three years at North Dakota (2005-06 to 2007-08) and was a Hobey Baker Award finalist and first-team All-American as a junior in 2007-08. His previous USA Hockey experience includes three World Championships (2009, 2010, 2013) and the 2006 World Junior Championship.

Now in his sixth year with the St. Louis Blues, Oshie has 33 points in 39 games and is tied for ninth in the NHL with 27 assists.

Parise and Oshie are aiming to become the first UND products win Olympic gold with the U.S. since Dave Christian in 1980 with the famed “Miracle on Ice” team.
