GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota juniors Mark MacMillan and Nick Mattson were recognized by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) today for their roles in UND’s series sweep of Miami over the weekend.
MacMillan, a forward, was named NCHC Offensive Player of the Week, while Mattson was named NCHC Defenseman of the Week as UND claimed sole possession of second place in the league standings with 3-2 and 9-2 victories over the RedHakws.
MacMillan figured in on all three UND goals in Friday’s 3-2 victory, scoring twice (including the game-winner) and adding an assist. He chipped in with two more assists the next night in a 9-2 win. The Penticton, British Columbia, native extended his point streak to four games and has now racked up five goals and eight assists in his last 10 games.
In 24 games this season, MacMillan has eight goals and 10 assists to tie for third on the team in scoring.
Mattson was a central figure in UND’s 9-2 win on Saturday, scoring a pair of second-period goals, assisting on a third-period power-play tally and blocking three shots. The Chanhassen, Minn., native was also a plus-4 on the night and plus-5 in the series.
In 26 games this season, Mattson has three goals and 10 assists.
St. Cloud State junior Ryan Faragher was named NCHC Goaltender of the Week and Colorado College defenseman Jacob Slavin was the NCHC Rookie of the Week.
