Frozen Four berth vaults UND into top five

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – A pair of dramatic victories at last weekend’s NCAA Midwest Regional have launched North Dakota from No. 13 all the way to No. 5 in this week’s USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.

The wins, coming against top-seeded Wisconsin (5-2) and No. 2 seed Ferris State (2-1, double overtime), secured UND’s 20th berth in the NCAA Frozen Four and the sixth in 10 years under head coach Dave Hakstol.

UND’s opponent in the Frozen Four semifinal is top-ranked Minnesota, which held on to the top spot in the USA Today poll after claiming the West Regional in Saint Paul. Second-ranked Union and third-ranked Boston College will meet in the other semifinal.

UND (25-13-3) and Minnesota (27-6-6) will meet on Thursday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. Central on ESPN2. The winner advances to the national championship game on Saturday, April 12 at 6 p.m. Central on ESPN.
