GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota junior forward Jason Gregoire announced today that he will forgo his senior year of eligibility next season in order to play professionally. Gregoire was a third-round pick of the New York Islanders in the 2007 National Hockey League entry draft.

Gregoire was an All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) third team selection as a junior in 2010-11 after achieving career highs in points (43), goals (25), power-play goals (eight), and shorthanded goals (two). He helped lead UND to an NCAA Frozen Four appearance, as well as WCHA regular season and tournament championships.

A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Gregoire led the Sioux with 20 goals as a sophomore in 2009-10.

He finished his collegiate career with 109 points (57 goals, 52 assists) in 120 career games, and his 15 career game-winning goals tie him for fourth all-time at UND with Brandon Bochenski (2002-04).

Gregoire helped lead the Sioux to a pair of MacNaughton Cups as WCHA regular season champions in 2008-09 and 2010-11, as well as back-to-back Broadmoor Trophies as WCHA tournament champions (2009-10, 2010-11).

Gregoire, who is majoring in investments, was a two-time selection to the All-WCHA Academic team.

Once the 5-foot-11, 196-pound Gregoire signs his first contract, he will become the sixth Fighting Sioux to ink a professional contract since the end of the 2010-11 season, joining fellow junior Brett Hextall (Phoenix Coyotes),and seniors Brent Davidson (Boras HC, Sweden), Matt Frattin (Toronto Maple Leafs), Chay Genoway (Minnesota Wild), and Brad Malone (Colorado Avalanche).
