GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota men's basketball coach Brian Jones announced the signing of Quinton Hooker to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday.

Hooker is currently in the beginning stretch of his senior season at Park Center Senior High School just outside of Minneapolis. The Brooklyn Center, Minn., native averaged 26 points per game during his junior season en route to earning second team all-state and all-metro honors.

"We are pleased to add a player of Quinton's caliber to our program," Jones said. "He is a gifted, scoring point guard, who we feel possesses the talent to have great success at our level. Quinton is a dynamic player that can affect the game in a number of a ways.

"I have to give credit to Coach G (assistant coach Gameli Ahelegbe). He did a great job of recruiting this young man and selling him on what this program is all about. We're excited to add him to our family."

Hooker, who is six-foot, 195 pounds, also averaged seven rebounds and seven assists from his starting point guard spot for the Pirates. His efforts also earned him a spot on the All-Northwest Suburban Conference Team.

"I'm very excited about signing to play college basketball at the University of North Dakota and can't wait to go there," Hooker said.  "I love the school, coaches, players and of course the town of Grand Forks. I'm proud to be a part of the North Dakota men's basketball team and looking forward to getting up there to start my career."

Hooker will join the program in time for the 2013-14 season, which will be the second for the team in the Big Sky Conference.
