PORTLAND, Ore. – Junior thrower Shawn Johnson delivered a milestone performance for the University of North Dakota today at the 2013 Big Sky Conference Track and Field Outdoor Championship.

Johnson placed third in the shot put, securing the first All-Big Sky Conference performance in UND men’s track and field history. The Eveleth, Minn., native recorded a mark of 16.45 meters (53 feet, 11 ¾ inches) to finish behind only event-winner Zach Coniglio of Sacramento State and runner-up Trevor Gilreath of Montana State.

Johnson’s teammate, freshman Zach Olson (Owatonna, Minn.), was 11th in the shot put with a throw of 15.20 meters (49’10½”).

In addition to Johnson, UND also received points on the third day of competition from freshman D’Monte Farley. The Cottage Grove, Minn., native placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 6.86 meters (22’6¼”).

On the track, freshman John LeClerc (Grafton, N.D.) ran a personal-best time of 15.25 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles prelims. He finished in 14th place, two spots behind teammate and classmate Jimmy Evers (Grand Forks, N.D.), who clocked a time of 15.03 seconds.

Senior Matthew McCreary (Grand Forks, N.D.) also recorded a PR, with his coming in the 400-meter hurdles prelims. McCreary recorded a time of 56.41 seconds, knocking just over one half-second off of his previous best time.

The Big Sky Conference Championship will conclude on Saturday starting at 12:30 p.m. Central with the field events, following by the running events at 2 p.m.
