North Dakota takes an early break from National College Hockey Conference (NCHC) play with an exhibition game against the United States Under-18 Team on Saturday night.

The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. Central at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

North Dakota Strong                    
Saturday’s game is a designated North Dakota Strong game.

North Dakota Strong is a campaign to help raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research during the month of October.

All proceeds from this University of North Dakota Athletics fundraiser will be donated to Mayo Clinic for breast cancer research and will benefit the community of Grand Forks, including patients of Altru Health System, a proud member of the Mayo Clinic Health Network.

As part of the fundraiser, the men’s hockey team will wear special pink jerseys on Saturday, which will be auctioned off with proceeds benefitting North Dakota Strong. Fans can bid on their favorite jersey by visiting through Oct. 30.

Media Coverage    
All UND men’s hockey games, home and away, can be heard on 96.1 FM (The Fox) and on stations across the UND Hockey Radio Network. Veteran broadcaster Tim Hennessy, in his 35th season as the voice of UND men’s hockey, calls the action while Steve Olson provides analysis during home games.

Saturday’s game will be broadcast live in high definition on Midco Sports Network. Dan Hammer handles the play-by-play while former North Dakota standout Scott Koberinski (1985-89) serves as color analyst and Katie Hale handles intermission interviews.

About the U.S. Under-18 Team    
The U.S. Under-18 Team was 7-2-1 heading into its game last night against the Fargo Force in Fargo.

Forwards Sonny Milano (4g, 9a) and Ryan Hitchcock (3g, 10a) entered the week tied for the team scoring lead with 13 points each, while forward Dylan Larkin had scored a team-leading eight goals.

Edwin Minney has appeared in six games between the pipes, going 4-2-1 with a 2.68 goals against average and .903 save percentage. Blake Weyrick is 3-0-0 with a 1.33 GAA and .947 save percentage in his three appearances.
For the weekend Riley Barber recorded seven points, including four goals on Saturday night, and was named NCHC Offensive Player of the Week. Linemate Austin Czarnik had five points, while goalies Jay Williams (26 saves) and Ryan McKay (38 saves) each picked up wins.

Team USA Coaching Staff    
Danton Cole is in his fourth season as a head coach at USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program and will guide the U.S. National Under-18 Team in 2013-14.

Prior to USA Hockey, Cole spent three years as head coach of the men’s ice hockey team at the University of Alabama-Huntsville where he led the Chargers to their second College Hockey America Championship (2010), earning their second NCAA Division I Tournament berth.

He also served as assistant coach at Bowling Green State University in 2006-07.

Cole’s coaching staff includes assistant coach John Gruden, intern assistant coach Daniel Naurato and goaltending coach Kevin Reiter.

Recent Series History    
UND has faced the U.S. Under-18 Team four times under head coach Dave Hakstol, most recently a 6-4 win last October.

UND’s Rocco Grimaldi (So., Rossmoor, Calif.), himself a product of the U.S. National Team Development Program, had two goals in that game, while defenseman Jordan Schmaltz (So., Verona, Wis.) had three assists.

Current UND freshman defensemen Gage Ausmus (East Grand Forks, Minn.) and Keaton Thompson (Devils Lake, N.D.) both suited up for the U.S. in that game. Thompson had one assist.
