GRAND FORKS, N.D. - North Dakota head football coach Bubba Schweigert made hire No. 8 on his coaching staff on Thursday by announcing that Danny Freund will remain with the program and coach the team's wide receivers.

Freund will be the longest-tenured coach on staff as the 2014 season will be the fourth as a coach at his alma mater. He spent his first three seasons on the sidelines coaching the team's running backs (2011 and 2012) and quarterbacks (2013).

"During the transition between staffs, Danny continued to show his loyalty to this program and put forth a great amount of time and effort to ensure that process was as smooth as possible," Schweigert said. "He mainted recruiting contacts and prospect commitments over the past few months for us and did a great job in that regard.

"All along I've said I want guys that are passionate about this place and Danny certainly meets that requirement."

Freund was a two-year starter at quarterback for UND and arrived on campus just after Schweigert left for the head coaching job at Minnesota Duluth in 2004.

"It is an honor to remain here at UND on Coach Schweigert's staff," Freund said. "We are committed to building this program day by day and do that with great passion and enthusiasm."

He holds two degrees from the university - a bachelor's degree in business economics (2008) and a master's degree in educational leadership (2013).

Schweigert has one more position to hire to complete his staff.
