For the second year in a row, more than 220 student-athletes participated in the two-hour food drive that involved door-to-door collection throughout the Grand Forks and East Grand Forks communities.
"The generosity both of these communities showed on Tuesday was amazing, and will go a long way in providing Thanksgiving meals for area families in need," said Stacy Bjorlie, UND athletics academic services coordinator.
The food collected will allow UND Mortar Board to fill Thanksgiving "Turkey" Baskets that will be distributed to area families in need on Nov. 17.
"It's truly rewarding to see the community and student-athletes helping others in such a meaningful way," said UND SAAC President and junior volleyball player Ronni Munkeby. "This food drive shows what Thanksgiving and the holiday season are truly about and it's wonderful to see the amount of people who participated."
"The Turkey Basket Drive is not successful without the support of the campus and the community and we are extremely grateful that the UND student-athletes have chosen it as one of their projects," said UND Mortar Board representative Jasmin Boger.
