GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota Athletics Department and the UND Alumni Association & Foundation jointly announced today that the fifth biennial A Night of Champions: UND Athletics Auction & Gala raised a record $158,000 for student-athlete scholarships.

Nearly 600 attendees – the most in the event’s history – helped generate a 17 percent increase from the $135,000 raised at the previous event in 2011. The $158,000 raised also exceeded the event’s target goal by more than five percent.

“This year’s auction and gala was truly a night to remember for UND Athletics,” said Athletics Director Brian Faison, “A record crowd helped achieve our goal of over $150,000 in support of our student-athletes. This was an incredible team effort involving volunteers, sponsors, businesses and individuals donating auction items, student-athletes and the staffs of the UND Alumni Association and Foundation and UND Athletics.”

As the signature fundraising and social event for UND Athletics, A Night of Champions proceeds benefit the more than 400 student-athletes at the University of North Dakota. In partnership with North Dakota Spirit | The Campaign for UND, the gala supports North Dakota Impact Scholarships, which are critical in catapulting the University of North Dakota’s 21 athletics teams to success in competition, in the classrooms, and in service to the community.

More than 40 businesses, community members, alumni and friends of UND made sponsorship donations to the event, totaling nearly 200 silent auction items and 15 live auction items.

The event also featured a social hour, dinner, cocktails, musical entertainment from UND student-athletes Luke Hoplin (football) and Tate Maris (hockey), and keynote addresses from UND student-athletes Zane Gothberg (hockey) and Jocelyne Lamoureux (hockey). More than 50 student-athletes volunteered to assist with valet parking, coat check and auction bidding. New in 2013 was the implementation of the online bidding software ClickBid, which allowed attendees to conduct their silent auction bidding via smart devices.
