Grand Forks, N.D. - The North Dakota football team donned full pads for the first time during spring practices on Sunday and the energy remained high at Memorial Stadium. The live drills will come where the pads will really start popping, but getting back to "real football" was welcomed by all involved.

"I think the players are coming out and doing what we ask them to do. They are working hard and I think we are doing a nice job as a defensive staff in giving them something specific to improve on every day," defensive coordinator Josh Kotelnicki said. "We are headed in the right direction."

- With the start of spring practices being pushed back a couple of weeks, the team hit the field for the third straight day to make up for lost time. The team will is scheduled to be back on the field on Monday before getting a day off on Tuesday.
- The one-on-one drills involving wide receivers and defensive backs is usually one of the more entertaining five-minute periods of a given practice. The banter going back-and-forth between the two units adds a little extra boost to the session.
- Senior Greg Hardin made up for an uncharacteristic drop on the first play of team drills by hauling in a nice deep pass from redshirt freshman Ryan Bartels later in the session. Bartels had several long connections on the day.
- The special teams emphasis today was on kickoff return. Hardin, junior defensive back Daryl Brown and running Jake Miller each got some reps as the primary return man. Newcomer J.J. Robertson and sophomore Jameer Jackson were the two upbacks in front of Hardin on the first team.
