MOORHEAD, Minn. – With just one more meet remaining prior to the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championship, North Dakota’s throwers proved more than ready last night at the Cobber Twilight.
Several UND throwers achieved personal records during the one-night competition, which was originally scheduled for last Tuesday until poor field conditions caused its postponement.
UND freshman Cody Mach hit personal records in both the discus and the hammer. The Faribault, Minn., native hit a discus PR of 43.55 meters (142’10.5”) and a hammer PR of 47.95 meters (157’3”).
Junior Shawn Johnson added 10 centimeters to his discus PR and moved up two spots on the NCAA list with a mark of 52.75 meters (173’0”). Johnson won the event, with teammate Roman Waldera (Jr., Minot, N.D.), who was competing unattached, placing second. Waldera hit a mark of 51 meters (167’4”).
Waldera also recorded a PR in the hammer, placing third with a throw of 54.58 meters (179’1”). UND’s Jakob Bissell (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.), also competed unattached, was the runner-up with a PR of 56.22 meters (184’5”).
