GRAND FORKS, N.D. – With the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms looming, Mother Nature provided a break in the weather for the University of North Dakota women’s soccer game against Montana on Friday. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies attack proved too strong, as UND lost by a score of 3-0.

“I think Montana was able to come in and push us around, and that’s to be expected when you have a young team like we have where we’re playing a lot of freshmen in a lot of minutes, and a lot of redshirt freshman as well,” head coach Matt Kellogg said. “We’re still growing into ourselves as a team and being able to play at this level with the physicality of it.”

Montana attempted a total of 29 shots in the contest, compared to just seven by North Dakota. UND’s junior goalkeeper Kristi Hestdalen made a total of six saves off of nine shots on goal. Montana’s keeper Kailey Norman, only made one save in the game for the clean sheet.

The Grizzlies opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a goal from their leading point getter, Mackenzie Akins. In the second half, Maddey Frey netted back-to-back goals to cap off the Montana scoring.

Sophomore forward Andrea Hyduke led the team with two shot attempts in the contest, while senior midfielder Noel Scherer recorded the lone shot on goal for UND.

The team returns to the pitch on Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. match against Eastern Washington at Bronson Field.
