GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota sophomore goaltender Shelby Amsley-Benzie has been named to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-America Women’s At-Large Third Team by a vote of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Amsley-Benzie is a chemical engineering major and a mathematics minor with a 4.0 grade point average. She was named a WCHA Scholar-Athlete and to the WCHA All-Academic Team. On the ice, she helped lead her team to its second-consecutive WCHA Final Face-Off championship game. She posted a 14-7-2 record in net this season and had a 1.21 goals-against average and a .958 save percentage during the postseason. Additionally, she led the nation with a .981 third-period save percentage, only conceding three goals in the third period all year.

The academic All-America at-large teams honor student-athletes in the sports of women’s bowling, women’s crew, men’s and women’s fencing, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s gymnastics, men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s rifle, men’s and women’s skiing, men’s and women’s swimming & diving, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s volleyball, men’s and women’s water polo, and men’s wrestling.

Notes: UND men's hockey junior defenseman Nick Mattson was also named a 2014 Capital One Academic All-American today, giving UND four academic All-Americans so far in 2013-14. Volleyball senior Ronni Munkeby and baseball senior Patrick Riewer were recognized earlier this year. UND also has two student-athletes (Jimmy Evers, Erin Wysocki) on the track and field ballot, which will be announced in late June … UND has now had at least two academic All-Americans in each of the last eight years and in 14 of the past 15 years … Amsley-Benzie is the third academic All-American in UND women’s hockey history, joining two-time honoree Jocelyne Lamoureux (2011-12, 2012-13) and Monique Lamoureux (2012-13).
