NCAA Athletics Academic Eligibility
Requirements
Full Time Enrollment Requirements
Student-athletes must be enrolled in
no less than 12 credit hours during the fall and spring semester to be eligible
for practice, competition, and financial aid.
Graduate students must be enrolled in no less than 9 credit hours of graduate
coursework to be considered full-time and to be eligible for practice,
competition, and financial aid.
Student-athletes who will be taking a dual-degree course
of study (eg. BA/MA) must petition the NCAA. Please see the Athletics
Department Compliance Office as soon as you decide to undertake a combined
program.
Progress Toward Degree
Requirements
Complete
credit requirements:
Earn 18 semester credits during the academic year (excluding summer)
Freshmen must complete 24 credits
prior to second year of enrollment (can include summer).
Earn six academic credits in each
semester (6 fall, 6 spring)
Declaration of degree:
Designate a program of study leading toward a specific baccalaureate degree
by the beginning of your third year of enrollment and, thereafter, make
satisfactory progress toward that specific degree.
Complete 40/60/80 toward your degree:
Complete 40% of your degree
requirements before the beginning of your third year (50 credits)
Complete 60% of your degree
requirements before the beginning of your fourth year (75 credits)
Complete 80% of your degree
requirements before the beginning of your fifth year (100 credits)
Maintain minimum cumulative GPA:
Every student-athlete must
maintain a cumulative GPA of a 2.0 beginning with the fall term of their
sophomore year at UND.
