DES MOINES, Iowa- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team opens its 2017 fall season by heading to the Drake Inviatational, set for Sept. 15-17 at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
It is the first of four fall events on the docket for North Dakota, who is a year removed from qualifying for the Big Sky Conference Tournament for the first time in school history. Returning from that team are Preethi Kasilingam, who played primarily at No. 2 singles, and Alex Revenig, who had eight combined singles wins at No. 5 and 6. Alysse Nakasato, Mary Wessman, Courtney Brackin and Aliza Deming also return to the fold for head coach Tom Wynne, now in his 27th season at the helm.
This weekend's event is a 10-team field including: Augustana (SD), Creighton, North Dakota, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska-Omaha, South Dakota and Upper Iowa. Carmen Palumbo and Kasilingam headline the Flight A singles draw for North Dakota with Elly Hatnett and Isa Sullivan in Flight B, Yasaunaga and Zahra Finnigan in Flight C and Revenig in Flight D.
Palumbo and Hartnett team up along with Kasilingam and Finnigan in the top doubles draw which will kick off action Friday.
The fall schedule continues next week at the Gopher Invite in Minneapolis, Minn., followed by stops in Creighton (Set. 29) and the ITA Regionals in Lawrence, Kan. on Oct. 19-23.
