ATLANTA — The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced the WBCA Thirty Under 30 honorees presented by Marriott Rewards® for the 2017-18 season and it includes UND assistant coach Katelin Oney. The WBCA Thirty Under 30 presented by Marriott Rewards® program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women’s basketball coaches age 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship, professional manner, and professional association involvement.

"Katelin has made an impact everywhere she’s been-- as a player and now as a coach," UND head women's basketball coach Travis Brewster said. "She has tremendous character and is an excellent teacher of the game. Her loyalty to people is an endearing quality as is her honesty. I’m very happy for her to earn this honor."

Oney recently completed her second year on staff at North Dakota and has helped UND to 32 wins over the past two seasons, including a share of the Big Sky Conference regular season championship in 2017.|

“The WBCA is pleased to recognize up and coming talent in our coaching family. The 30 coaches who have been named to receive the Thirty Under 30 Award are deserving of this recognition, and the WBCA congratulates them for distinguishing themselves early in their careers,” said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. “These coaches have demonstrated eagerness, effectiveness, loyalty, love of the game, and a commitment to the student-athlete. We celebrate their effort on the basketball court as teachers and equally applaud the extensive role they play in impacting the lives of their student-athletes.”

Prior to coming to North Dakota, Oney helped lead St. Mary's (Tex.) to an 18-10 overall mark in 2015-16. The Rattlers advanced to the Heartland Conference Tournament semifinals, before falling to top-seed and undefeated Lubbock Christian. Three Rattlers were named to the league's all-conference teams (one second team, two honorable mentions).

Before her stop at St. Mary's, Oney spent two years as a graduate assistant at Wayne State College, part of a nationally-ranked Wildcat team that won back-to-back Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championships. In her two years, the Wildcats of Wayne State College posted a 56-11 overall record.

At NCAA Division II Wayne State, Oney's primary duties included recruiting, assisting with guard fundamentals, assisting with player development in the offseason and provided critical analyses of game film to create scouting reports, among others.

Oney was a standout player at the University of Northern Iowa, where she led the Panthers to the first Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship in school history. Oney helped lead the Panthers to back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championships and two straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

A team captain as a senior, Oney was an all-tournament team selection and ended her career fifth in the program for three-pointers made and ninth in three-point field-goal percentage.
