GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- The University of North Dakota women's basketball team has earned the Big Sky Conference's automatic-qualifying bid to the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT). UND, the co-regular season league champion, will represent the conference in the WNIT after Montana State won the Big Sky Tournament Saturday and will advance to the NCAA Tournament.
"The program is in its fourth-straight postseason," UND head coach Travis Brewster said. "Not many people get a third season in their careers. Our seniors have been a part of this for all four years and now our underclassmen get an excellent experience. We can't take it for granted, it's a great opportunity for team and program."
UND (20-10) will be making its first appearance in the postseason WNIT after consecutive trips to the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) and a 2014 trip to the NCAA Division I Tournament.
The entire postseason field will be announced Monday night. The WNIT will announce their first-round matchups late Monday night with the full bracket to follow later. Play begins Mar. 15.
