WILMINGTON, N.C. - - After an explosive, record-breaking performance in the hammer throw yesterday, Molli Detloff once again paved the way for the University of North Dakota track and field team today at the Seahawk Invitational with another historic performance.

Detloff’s discus throw of 176 feet, 8 inches (53.86 meters) earned her the new school record, which was previously held by Talia Merrit. Merrit set the record in 2001 with a throw of 173-10 (52.99), and it had been UND’s longest-standing outdoor throws record until today. Detloff’s mark also placed her sixth in Big Sky Conference history, which she also earned yesterday with her hammer throw.

“This was a major weekend for Molli,” said head coach Kevin Galbraith. “Two school records in two days is absolutely incredible.”

On top of her two school records, Detloff also earned a personal record in the shot put with her throw of 44-02.50 (13.47). The throw put her in the ninth spot in UND history.

The day was also highlighted by several first- and second-place finishes for the Fighting Hawks.

Event winners included Stephanie Clarke in the 400-meter, Aubrey Hovland in the high jump, Nolan Hovland in the high jump, and Michael Quesenberry in the shot put.

Runners-up included Ian Collins in the discus and shot put, Molly Griep in the discus, Zac Ray in the pole vault, Isabel Waite in the high jump, Katelyn Weber in the shot put, and the 4x400 team consisting of Tyler Olson, Kelly Nordling, James Hollister, and James McFarlin.

Next on the calendar for UND is the Charleston Southern Invitational on Friday, March 17 and Saturday, March 18.
