Sayler, Smith pace UND in Pat Hicks' Invite finale

St. George, Utah --  North Dakota's Daniel Sayler and Jordan Smith both shot a 78 (+6) in the final round of the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational Tuesday to pace the Fighting Hawks in their spring opener.

Sayler finished the tournament with a 151 (+7) total after opening with a 73 (+1) on Monday. For Smith, his 78 matched his opening round score as he wrapped up play with a 156 (+12) total. UND fired a 320 total as a team for the second-straight day, while Jack McClintock (one stroke), Ryan Ames (four strokes) and Patrick Traynor (four strokes) all improved their scores during round-two play for the Fighting Hawks.

Utah Valley expanded its lead to nine strokes and captured the team title with a 560 (-16) total, while Utah State finished in second at 569 (-7). UND finished 12th with a 640 (+64) total.

Boston College's Matt Naumec chased down Long Beach State's Kymer Li to win medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 136 (-8). Naumec entered the day just a shot behind Li and closed with a 69 (-3), while Li carded a 71 (-1) in his final loop around the Sunbrook Golf Course.

UND returns to action March 6-7 at the Red Wolves Intercollegiate in Jonesboro, Ark.
