McClintock bounces back to lead Hawks in Houston

Spring, Texas -- Senior captain Jack McClintock turned around his day by shooting a 73 (+1) in his second loop around the Augusta Pines Golf Course Monday. McClintock opend the Colin Montgomerie Intercollegiate with an 83 (+11), but bounced back with a four-birdie round to lead North Dakota with a 155 (+11) total. The four birdies were the most in a round by a Fighting Hawk this season as McClintock posted his season-low round.

He is tied with junior Jeremy Kirk with 36-hole totals of 156 (+12). Kirk went about his score in a more consistent pattern, backing up an opening-round 79 (+7) with a second-round 77 (+5). Kirk birdied three holes in his second round and has shot in the 70's in each of his four competitive rounds this spring.

"Got off to a rough start in the morning round, but I like how we regrouped and turned things around there in the afternoon," UND head coach Matt Stricker said. "One thing we've shown this spring at each of these tournaments is that we've improved round-by-round and I expect that to contiue tomorrow."

Junior Jordan Smith is a stroke behind Kirk and McClintock at 157 (+13) after he went 79-78 in his opening 36 holes. Classmate Ryan Riihinen posted an 81 and 79 to land on 160 (+16), while Patrick Traynor following McClintock's lead and shaved 10 strokes off his opening-round score to go 90-80 on Monday.

Bradley is on top of the team standings after the Braves posted a 566 (-10) total. Each of the five golfers in the Braves' lineup shot even-par or better throughout the opening two rounds and BU holds a two-stroke lead on Abilene Christian (567; -9).

Houston's Alexander Frances is leading the race for medalist honors after shooting a 134 (-10) in his opening 36 holes. Frances is playing as an individual and leads his Cougar teammate, Pryce Beshoory (136; -8), by two strokes.

UND will wrap up third-round play of the Colin Montgomerie Invitational hosted by Houston Baptist on Tuesday.
