Madison, Ill. -- The North Dakota men's golf team returned to action Monday at the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational where the Fighting Hawks were without senior captain Jack McClintock, who will likely miss the rest of the fall season with an injury.

Juniors Jeremy Kirk and Jordan Smith each moved up a spot in head coach Tim Swanson's lineup to lead the team with respective scores of 152 (+10). Both players made four birdies in the opening 36 holes of the two-day tournament that is being played on the Gateway National Golf Links.

Smith opened with a 77 (+6) and backed that up with a 75 (+4), while Kirk rebounded from an opening-round 81 (+9) to equal the low round of his collegiate career with a 72 (+1). All four of Kirk's birdies came in his second loop around the course.

Freshman Keaton Wolf also had four birdies on his day to help UND post scores of 316 and 315. Senior Jack Stellon, who joined the team following McClintock's injury, took the Rugby native's spot in the lineup to make his collegiate debut. He improved his second-round score by three strokes. McClintock captured his second Big Sky Golfer of the Week accolade following the season-opening UNO Invitational.

SIUE took advantage of its home-course knowledge, firing a 553 (-15) total to build a 13-stroke advantage on Bradley in the race for the team title. Valparaiso's Drew Alexander opened with a 65 (-6) and tops the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 137 (-5). He holds a two-shot lead on a trio of golfers.

Kirk and Smith are tied for 37th, while UND sits in 17th-place overall. The Fighting Hawks wrap up the 54-hole event on Tuesday.
