BROOKINGS, S.D. - - The University of North Dakota saw improvements from both its men and women’s teams today at the 13th annual South Dakota State Classic.
“Both teams ran really well,” said head coach Dick Clay. “We have a young group and seeing improvement across the board is encouraging.”
Leading on the women’s side was sophomore Hannah Oscarson. She earned a seventh-place finish with a time of 19 minutes, 00.92 seconds.
Behind Oscarson was freshman Ellyssa Peterson who clocked a time of 19:19.18.
“Ellyssa has been consistently our second runner,” said Clay. “She is a freshman, so it is a really nice surprise to see her compete so well.”
“The times were big improvements for the whole women’s team,” said Clay. “We talked about improving on the middle of the race and we accomplished that today.”
On the men’s side, senior Scott Kvidera led the pack for UND once again. He earned a ninth-place finish with a run of 26:14.70.
Coming in second for the UND men was Cataldo DiDonna with a time of 26:28.10.
“On the men’s side, we were looking to close the gap between the first and fifth runner,” said Clay. “The whole group moved up and it was the best team race we have run in a while.”
The Fighting Hawks will host the Ron Pynn Classic on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Ray Richards Course.
