COLUMBIA, Mo.-- The University of North Dakota sent a pair of young male divers to the NCAA Zone meet to compete this week with the action beginning Monday. Day one saw the one-meter competition on the men's side as UND freshmen Mitch Raihle and Nick Benson were two of just 10 freshmen to make the field of 32.

"It was the guys' first experience in postseason at NCAA Zones, for two freshmen they did really well," UND diving coach Brian Strom said. "There were some nerves, but overall a pretty good performance. One-meter is a tough board, especially at this level. Hopefully tomorrow we can shake the nerves tomorrow and finish a little bit better on the 3-meter board."

Mitch Raihle placed 30th in the event with a 214.00 score while classmate Nick Benson was right behind in 31st (207.25) in the pair's first competition in the NCAA Zones. This zone features teams from North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wisconsin,Iowa, Missouri, Texas and Louisiana.

Action continues tomorrow with the men's 3-meter while the women take to the short board.
