GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Junior running back John Santiago collected an All-America accollade for the third-consecutive season on Tuesday after the Associated Press named him to its first team as an all-purpose player.

Santiago led the Football Championship Subdivision with 1,780 total all-purpose yards in the regular season and was second among FCS players with 161.8 all-purpose ypg.

Santiago, who was a first team All-Big Sky performer at running back for the third-straight season as well in 2017, put together his best season as a return specialist and led the Big Sky with a 6.0 ypc average.

The team captain combined for 970 return yards, including a career-best 766 kickoff return yards. He also averaged 18.5 yards per punt return and had four that went for 30-plus yards, including a 64-yarder for a touchdown in a win at Portland State (Oct. 28).

Santiago is already third on UND's career-list for all-purpose yards with 5,539.

This is the initial first team All-America accolade for Santiago, who was named to a pair of second team lists as a freshman and sophomore.
