DALLAS -- The North Dakota women's golf team was in the Lone Star State on Monday competing in the opening round of the ORU/SFA Spring Break Shootout. Sophomore Jenna Janu turned in the top score for the Fighting Hawks with a 79 (+7), while teammate Dani DelGreco was two strokes off that score with an opening-round 81 (+9).
The Fighting Hawks are 14th in the team race after day one after their four scorers combined for a 331 (+43). Eastern Kentucky is leading the pack thanks to a 302 (+14), but the Colonels and fifth-place Montana are only separated by eight total strokes.
Senior Alexis Guggisberg had the third-best score among UND golfers with an 85 (+13), while sophomore Hanna Peterson and freshman Ally Rogers both carded an 86 (+4).
The Colonels' Sofie Levin shot a 69 (-3) to lead the race for medalist honors and has a one-stroke lead on Alabama State's Chanelle Avaricio. Those were the only two golfers in the 87-player field to break par.
