Boulder City, Nev. -- The North Dakota women's golf team gets one more opportunity to tame the Boulder Creek Golf Club layout this week as the Fighting Hawks wrap up a six-year run as a Big Sky member. The 2018 Big Sky Championship will be the sixth event UND has played on the course and head coach Natalie Martinson feels like her squad is poised to play its best golf to date.

"Having played here as much as we have over the past three seasons, familiarity and experience on the course should play to our advantage," Martinson said. "It'll be up to us utilize that knowledge during our rounds, however. That will be one of the keys for us. Every player in our lineup has played this course at least once, so we'll be confident when we tee it up for Friday's first round."

Junior captain Jenna Janu is the Fighting Hawk with the most success on the course. As a freshman, she fired a 223 (+7) to tie for 21st and her 73 (+1) in the second round of the 2016 Championship matched the best single-round score by a UND player on the course. The Fighting Hawks set a Division I program scoring record at the tournament with a 921 (+57) total.

Earlier this March at the Jackrabbit Spring Invitational, Janu placed 19th and a shot a 229 (+13) with three rounds in the 70's, including an opening-round 75 (+3) and she leads the team for the third-straight year in stroke average at 76.50.

Unseasonably cold weather and high winds brought scores up at last year's championship as UND posted a 976 after recording a Division I-record 921 (+57) on the course in 2016 when Janu and senior Sadie Martin both turned in 223's to lead the Fighting Hawks.

"Last year aside, we have been playing our best golf down the back stretch of the season at this event and I know I have a motivated bunch to really play well this week," Martinson said. "We have set some attainable goals for ourselves that we're going to do our best to achieve in our final Big Sky Championship."

Freshman Ashlyn Guggisberg has been a solid addition to Martinson's lineup this season and will be in the No. 2 spot. The rookie owns the second-best stroke average on the team at 78.50 and also won the Jimmie Fall Classic in September. She has played in all nine events and her 71 (-1) in Jamestown matched Ally Rogers' 71 in the second round of the Hobble Creek Fall Classic for low round of the season by a Fighting Hawk. Rogers will hold down the No. 4 spot.

Janu, Guggisberg, Rogers and Benedikte Pettersen have all taken their turns leading UND in scoring this season at least one individual event. Pettersen's came at the Thunderbird Invitational when she tied for 9th with a 151 (+7) in the 36-hole event. It was just the second start of her career and she will tee off first for the Fighting Hawks at 9 a.m. CT on Friday out of the No. 5 spot.

Junior Hanna Peterson will play at the No. 3 spot in Martinson's lineup and she put together a solid tournament for the Fighting Hawks during their trip to Boulder City in March. Peterson opened with a career-best 75 (+3) and capped the event with a 78 (+5) to shoot a career-best 54-hole score of 234 (+18).
