GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The Western Collegiate Hockey Associaton (WCHA) announced today that two members of the Fighting Sioux women's hockey team have been named WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award recipients.

North Dakota's honorees are senior goaltender Brittany Kirkham (Ottawa, Ontario) and Ashley Holmes (Miltona, Minn.).

Kirkham is a three-year recipient and Holmes a first-time recipients of the award, which was established in 2005-06 by the WCHA and the Association member team Faculty Athletics Representatives.

To earn recognition, conference-member student-athletes must have completed at least one year of residency at their present institution prior to the current academic year and must also have a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for the previous two semesters or three quarters, or may qualify if his or her overall GPA is at least 3.50 for all terms at his or her present institution.

A total of 322 honorees from the WCHA's 10 men's and eight women's institutions have been honored over the first five years of the award.
