MANKATO, Minn. --- The University of North Dakota women's hockey team got a solid goaltending performance from Stephanie Ney as she led the Sioux to a 1-0 win over Minnesota State, Mankato, at All Seasons Arena today.

Even though today's game didn't mean anything for the Sioux in the standings they will now enter next weekend's WCHA first-round series against top-seeded Minnesota Duluth with a little momentum.

"We just want to keep developing and getting better," head coach Brian Idalski said. "Our kids played well defensively and we really managed the game better coming down the stretch. We made better decisions and did a better job in the neutral ice. It is nice to come out of it with a shutout."

Ney completed her first shutout of the season and third of her collegiate career making 34 saves. The Sioux made it interesting though as they went shorthanded with only 2:28 remaining and the Mavericks would pull their goaltender with 58 seconds left in regulation but were able to grind it out for the win.

"Ney has played well the last three weekends," Idalski said. "I am happy she was able to get a nice result. I was good for her and just a good road win."

Sophomore Sara Dagenais (Montreal, Quebec) scored on the power play at 17:31 of the second stanza for the games lone goal with assists going to Ashley Furia (Sedalia, Colo.) and Kelly Lewis (Forest Lake, Minn.). Dagenais now leads the Sioux with 10 goals this season.

"I think we have been moving the puck well (on the power play) for a long time," Idalski said. "We were just not finishing up plays. It was a work in progress and will probably continue to be going in to next week."

The Sioux finished the game 1-for-3 on the power play while holding MSU scoreless on three attempts themselves.
