GRAND FORKS, N.D. --- University of North Dakota women's hockey defenseman Jordan Slavin was announced today as part of the 20-player roster for the 2010 U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team. The squad will compete in the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Women's Under-18 Championship, to be held for the first time on U.S. soil from March 27-April 3 in the Chicago suburb of Woodridge, Ill.

"I am excited," Slavin said. "I want to represent my country well and hopefully one day get the opportunity to play in the olympics. Ever since they have had U18 I have wanted to play in it and this is my last year and I finally did it."

The Erie, Colo., native becomes the first player in program history to be named to a national team after having already played for the Sioux*. Slavin finished her freshman campaign with three goals and four assists as an anchor on the Sioux blue line.

"We are so excited for Jordan to have the opportunity to represent her country on the world stage," head coach Brian Idalski said. "Anytime you get international experience playing against teams like Canada and some of the best kids in your age bracket in the world you can't help but become a little bit better for it in the long term."

Slavin is one of only three members of Team USA who were not part of the 2009 U.S. Women's Under-18 Select Team.

The U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team is the two-time defending world champion, after capturing gold in Fussen, Germany, in 2009, and in Calgary, Alberta, in 2008.

Team USA plays Japan in its first preliminary-round game on March 27.

*Note: Susanne Fellner was the first Sioux to have competed in national competition (2006 Olympics; Germany) and Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureux were first active student-athletes to compete for a national team (2010 Olympics; USA).
