North Dakota begins the back half of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference schedule this weekend when it travels to Omaha to face the 18th-ranked Mavericks.
The Fighting Hawks enter the series in sixth place in the NCHC, just one point behind fifth-place Omaha, two points behind fourth-place St. Cloud State and just three points behind third-place Western Michigan.
All UND men’s hockey games, home and away, can be heard on 96.1 FM (The Fox) and on stations across the UND Sports Home of Economy Radio Network, as well as through the iHeart Radio app. Longtime broadcaster Tim Hennessy, in his 38th season as the voice of UND men’s hockey, calls the action while Steve Olson provides color analysis.
Saturday’s game will be telecast live nationally by American Sports Network and will be picked up locally in the Grand Forks viewing area by WDAY’Z Xtra. David Ahlers will handle the play-by-play with analysis from David Brisson. Larry Punteney will serve as rinkside reporter. Consult local listings for channel information.
Friday’s game will not be televised.

The Mavericks returned from their Christmas break with a non-conference sweep of Lake Superior State, winning 4-1 on Friday and 5-3 on Saturday.
Senior forward Austin Ortega was named NCHC Offensive Player of the Week after a 4-point series in which he tied an NCAA record with his 23rd career game-winning goal on Friday.
In 20 games this season, Ortega has 27 points and leads UND’s Shane Gersich (So., Chaska, Minn.) by two points in the conference scoring race. Those two are tied with Western Michigan’s Matheson Iacopelli with a league-leading 14 goals.
Classmate Ian Brady was named NCHC Defenseman of the Week after collecting four assists in the series, include a career-high-tying three on Saturday.
Ortega, Brady and the Mavericks are firing at a league-best 26.7 percent on the power play and boast the league’s top offense at 3.65 goals per game.
