GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota defense partners Christian Wolanin and Colton Poolman were both recognized by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) on Wednesday afternoon, with Wolanin being named to the All-NCHC Second Team and Poolman garnering honorable mention accolades.
Wolanin, a junior from Detroit, Mich., tied for second among NCHC defensemen in scoring with 23 points (6 goals, 17 assists) in 24 conference games, including a league-leading 13 power-play points. He ranked second among NCHC defenders during league play in goals (6), assists (17) and power-play goals (5) and was tied for third in shots on goal (65).
In 36 games overall this season, Wolanin has established career highs in points (32), goals (11), assists (21) and power-play goals (7). He leads the nation’s defensemen in goals and is on pace to become the first blueliner to lead UND in scoring since James Patrick in 1982-83.
Poolman, a sophomore from East Grand Forks, Minn., tied for seventh among NCHC defensemen in scoring with 16 points (5 goals, 11 assists) in 24 conference games.
In 36 games overall this season, Poolman has recorded career highs in points (23), assists (16) and goals (7), while tying for the team lead with a career-high plus-10 rating.
Wolanin, Poolman and the Fighting Hawks host Omaha this weekend in the NCHC Quarterfinals.
