GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota student-athletes representing the UND Athletics leadership academy, known as the “Hawkademy,” will be delivering fleece tie blankets to the Community Violence Intervention Center (CVIC) of Grand Forks on Tuesday, April 3.
The Hawkademy created and donated the blankets as part of UND’s It’s On Us spring week of action to help raise awareness of and to support those who have been the victims of violence.
“CVIC at UND is excited to collaborate with UND Athletics to prevent violence on UND’s campus and within the greater Grand Forks community,” said Peggy Jo, Campus Prevention & Education Coordinator for CVIC at UND. “The blanket donation given by UND Athletics will be used in our shelter, where people begin to heal from violence they have experienced. It’s wonderful to see UND Athletics setting the expectations with their generous donations that will benefit those who have experienced violence.”
The Hawkademy visit will take place at 9 a.m. Central at the CVIC location at 211 S. 4th St. in Grand Forks.
“Hawkademy student-athletes continue to show great leadership in helping raise awareness and lending a helping hand to those affected by violence. The blankets that the student-athletes created will serve as a great starting point to long-standing collaboration with the CVIC,” said UND Athletics Student-Athlete Development Coordinator Tyler Burmeister.
