A former NCAA student-athlete, Madison Peterson joined UND Athletics as compliance coordinator during the summer of 2017 after having spent the previous year as a compliance graduate assistant at the University of South Dakota.
Peterson provides assistance to UND's assistant athletics director for compliance to educate, support, monitor and enforce NCAA rules and regulations. She also assists with monitoring and certification for initial eligibility and continuing eligibility in regards to practice, financial aid and competition.
In addition, her position coordinates all facets of the National Letter of Intent (NLI) program, and departmental grant-in-aid offers to prospective students-athletes, as well as monitoring all aspects of student-athlete financial aid.
Peterson also assists with the athletics compliance monitoring system, which includes playing and practice, recruiting, amateurism, etc. Her responsibilities also include the development and distribution of educational tools such as compliance newsletters and brochures, as well as acting as meeting coordinator for educational meetings.
While at USD, Peterson (née Frain) also served internships with the University of South Dakota Foundation and with the associate AD for Athletic Development. She was also an intern for the Omaha Storm Chasers Triple-A baseball franchise during the summer of 2015.
Peterson lettered in softball at USD and twice earned All-Summit League honors as a pitcher. She finished her collegiate career ranked No. 3 on the school's all-time wins list and also ranked in the top six in starts, complete games, innings pitched and strikeouts. Peterson was also a member of the athletic department's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was co-chair of the Sport Management Alliance.
Peterson earned a bachelor's degree in sports management with a minor in coaching, as well as a master's degree in interdisciplinary studies, from USD.
