Buth and Martinez team up to win Creighton Invite

OMAHA, Neb. - The University of North Dakota men's tennis sophomore Lukas Buth and senior Daniel Martinez took home a first-place finish in doubles play from the Creighton Invite over the weekend.

In doubles, Buth and Martinez teamed together to top South Dakota State's Henrique Stemmer and Aiden DeBoer 6-1, Creighton's Stratton Brown and Mac Mease 7-6, and Creighton's Alex Koca and Brooks Kendall 6-3 to secure a first-place finish in the 'A' flight. Additionally, sophomore Alex Mailes paired up with freshman Annei Laska to finish third-place in the doubles 'B' flight.

In notable singles play, Laska took home the Consolation Championship by defeating South Dakota State's Emerson Styles, and Northern Colorado's Kyle Pease. Also, Mailes and junior Davide Callegari made it to the 'B' flight Consolation Championship, but did not play eachother. Mailes went on to defeat Doane's Ignacio Morrell 6-1, 6-3. 

This weekend's event was a 6-team field including: Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, North Dakota, Creighton, Nebraska-Omaha, and Doane University.

The Creighton Invite concludes the 2017 fall schedule for the men's tennis team.
