Fighting Hawks cruise past Vikings and Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. - The University of North Dakota men's tennis team blanked the Vikings, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon for the first game of their double header.

In doubles play, all matched as a point; UND swept the competition and was able to get the first three points of the day.

In singles play, UND swept the Vikings in all six matches, while only dropping one set on the day. North Dakota's Alex Mailes went into three sets with Augustana's Austin VanDerWeide, Mailes won the first set 6-2, dropped the second set 1-6, and finished out the final set 6-1.

This was the first time UND blanked an opponent this season.

MOORHEAD, Minn. - The University of North Dakota men's tennis team handily defeated the Cobbers, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon for the second game of their double header.

The dual against the Cobbers started out strong in favor of the Fighting Hawks by sweeping the competition in doubles play to clinch the first three points; as doubles did not count as one point.

In singles play, UND stayed in control by defeating Concordia in all six matches, only dropping one set. Ben Yeacker was the lone Fighting Hawk to lose a set on the day. Yeacker took the first set against David Schneck 6-2, lost the second set 3-6, and took the final set 6-2 to win the No. 6 singles match. All other Fighting Hawks defeated theirn opponents without dropping a set.

The Fighting Hawks will finish off their season against Northern Colorado at home on April 22 at Choice Health and Fitness.
